BIG Things

We Aussies like BIG things.

Not just fruit, either...

It doesn't get any classier than a BIG box of wine, amiright?

I know Buster's with me on this.

Aww, hell, while we're on a Buster note, check out the Big Merino:

Sorry Buster....

These are just a tiny handful of all the big things around Australia –it seems like every tiny little country town in Aus decided it needed a big thing to incite tourists. Here’s the official Wikipedia quote:

The Big Things of Australia are a loosely relatedset of large structures or sculptures. There are estimated to be over 150 such objectsaround the country, the first being the Big Scotsman in Medindie, Adelaide, which was built in 1963. Most Big Things began as tourist traps found along major roads between destinations. The big things have become something of a cult phenomenon, and are sometimes used as an excuse for a road trip, where many or all Big Things are visited and used as a backdrop to a group photograph. Many of the big things are considered works of folk artand are being heritage-listed.

Here’s the bugger who started it all:

Even my own hometown is home to big things. Right on the main drag into town from my house is the Big Captain Cook:

And there's the big marlin...

There is an AWESOME, sneaky geocache at the base of this fish. The name of the cache is “Fish-kebob”, which was awesome, because we were miles away from it and knew EXACTLY where we needed to head to…

And you thought Texas liked big.
